Should ecologists get involved in advocacy? https://roundtable.nceas.ucsb.edu/2013/01/11/should-ecologists-get-involved-in-advocacy/ https://roundtable.nceas.ucsb.edu/2013/01/11/should-ecologists-get-involved-in-advocacy/#respond Fri, 11 Jan 2013 20:11:57 +0000 http://roundtable.nceas.ucsb.edu/?p=62260 Continue reading ]]> Today we will be having a Roundtable to discuss issues involving the role of scientists in advocacy. I typically don’t get any feedback after advertising a Roundtable, but this topic generated a mixture of responses ranging from “that sounds interesting, I will be there” to “this topic has been talked to death and there is no resolution in sight” (I’m paraphrasing here). So, it seems as though people have strong opinions, which should make for an interesting discussion. To access papers relevant to the discussion visit the NCEAS plone site:

I received many insightful comments from those in attendance and I think my final presentation will be much improved by incorporating this feedback.

In preparation for my interview I have also been reading all of the job search / academic interview articles that I can get my hands on. I thought I would post a few of the best resources that I have come across during this process. Please feel free to add more in the comments section!

  1. Dr. Marissa Baskett’s list of resources (contains the resources below and many more!)
  2. Ecology 101: Preparing for academic interview
  3. Job quest in ecology and evolution (extremely helpful, contains real application packages)
  4. How to get a teaching job at a primarily undergraduate institution
